Employee(s) worked with: Mike, Steve
Reason for visit: Flight Training
I recommend this flight school: No
Pros
Good airplanes
Clean building
Fine airport
Good training programs
Organised |
Cons
Too busy
Cold staff, no friend feeling
Tired looking instructors (understandable)
Too thorough, repetitive training attitude
You will likely never have the same instructor twice.
ABSURD PRICES. |
My Review of Sunstate Aviation:
I really wanted to say yes to recommending this nice, organised school, but they're overbooked. Not enough planes or instructors.
I liked the planes, they seemed well taken care of for the amount of use they get.
If you book way ahead of time go ahead and try.
I went in hoping for a quick instrument rating, but no availability and I'm kind of glad, the rental prices are ABSURD. $160+ for an Arrow! I can rent that same kind of plane anywhere else in mint condition for 130-150 buckaroonies.

Reason for visit: Aircraft Rental
I recommend this flight school: No
Pros
New Aircraft
Good Location
Mostly friendly staff |
Cons
Poor Schedule
Too many students for available aircraft
Poor communication
Priority given to those students who will spend the most money there
Some staff arrogant and self centred
Often unwilling to help unless you are paying for it |
My Review of Sunstate Aviation:
I came to Sunstate with the promise of a number of hours build with them toward my requirement back home for a JAA CPL. They assured me that this was easily achievable in the time I would be with them. However the schedule rarely allowed for anywhere near the amount of time an hour builder would seek! Instructors regularly turned up 20-30mins late from flights with their students eating well into my time, and then if I was 5mins late I was subjected to lectures from these same instructors and threats to charge me for the time their student lost out on. Students who were training for private licences with them and would be staying for IRs were given special treatment and better hours and often took slots that I had booked before them.
In short I would urge anyone who is considering hour building with them to steer clear of them. They cannot handle anyone who wants to fly over 8 hours a week and you will lose money on the flights over and hotel. I bearly broke even and spent 5 months building 50 hours back home that I should have built with Sunstate!

I recommend this flight school: Yes
Pros
Condition of Aircraft OK |
Cons
Unreliable scheduling No continuity in training No CFI assigned Poor communication between staff |
My Review of Sunstate Aviation:
Scheduling was very unreliable. Training times and instructors changed all the time. No handover between CFIs. No structure in training, some sessions were held twice, others not at all. Much waiting around because of delays. School cannot be recommended for an efficient training programme, as much time is wasted.
